Engineer inspecting an outdoor heat pump unit at a Victorian London home

5 out of 5 stars

Our heat pump kept icing up in the cold snap. Renzy came out, found a defrost-cycle fault, and had it fixed the same day. Hugely relieved we didn't have to wait weeks for the original installer.

How a repair visit works

Diagnose first, fix second. You always get a fixed price before we start.

Tell us the symptoms

Book online or call us with what the heat pump is doing - or not doing. We'll book a same-week visit where possible.

On-site diagnosis

We test pressures, electrics, and controls. You get a clear explanation of the fault and a fixed-price quote.

Repair and re-test

We carry out the repair, re-commission the system, and document the work for your records.

Common faults we fix

Most heat pump callouts come down to a handful of issues. Here are the ones we see most often and what's usually behind them.

Not heating properly

Often a refrigerant leak, low flow, or a faulty sensor. We check pressures, test the system, find the cause, and quote the fix.

Outdoor unit frozen or iced up

Usually a defrost-cycle fault or blocked airflow. We check the defrost logic, fan, and condensate drainage.

Noisy operation

Loose mounts, worn fan bearings, or compressor noise. We inspect and replace the failing component.

Controller errors or no response

Communication faults between the indoor controller and the outdoor unit. We diagnose with manufacturer software and replace the failed board if needed.

Hot water not hot enough

Often a cylinder coil, thermostat, or schedule issue rather than the heat pump itself. We test the cylinder and the heat pump separately to find the real cause.

Why Renzy

Heat pump repairs done right the first time, by engineers qualified to work on the refrigerant inside your system. Air source only - we don't take on ground source heat pump repairs.

F-Gas certified

F-Gas certification is the legal qualification needed to work with the refrigerant inside your heat pump. Repairs are handled safely and documented properly.

All major brands

We repair and service Daikin, Mitsubishi, Vaillant, Samsung, LG, and most other domestic air source heat pumps installed in UK homes.

Fixed price after diagnosis

Heat pump repair questions

Do you repair heat pumps?

Yes. We diagnose and repair air source heat pumps from all major brands. Common faults include refrigerant leaks, pump or fan failures, controller issues, and frozen outdoor units. F-Gas certification is required for any refrigerant work, which our engineers hold.

Do heat pumps need servicing?

Yes - once a year is recommended. A service typically includes cleaning the outdoor unit, checking refrigerant pressures, testing flow temperatures, inspecting electrical connections, and checking the controller settings. Regular servicing keeps efficiency high and helps preserve any manufacturer warranty.

Do heat pumps work in cold weather?

Yes. Modern air source heat pumps work down to around minus 15 to minus 20 degrees Celsius, which is well below typical UK winter temperatures. Efficiency drops a little in very cold weather, but the system still produces useful heat. Sizing the pump and emitters correctly for your home is the key to comfortable winter performance.

How noisy is a heat pump?

Modern air source heat pumps are quiet - most operate around 40 to 50 decibels at one metre, similar to a fridge. We position the outdoor unit thoughtfully so noise to your home and your neighbour's home stays low. Planning rules require a permitted-development noise assessment for most installs.

How much does a heat pump cost to run?

Heat pumps are typically two to four times more efficient than a gas boiler, so for every unit of electricity they produce two to four units of heat. Running cost depends on your tariff, home insulation, and how well the system is set up. For a well-insulated home on a heat-pump electricity tariff, running costs are usually similar to or lower than a gas boiler.
